Big Cat Sighting

by Gary Paton

A conversation recently with a work colleague triggered a reminder with regard to an incident back in September 2010. As we do every year a party of us were staying at the Kinloch and playing the glorious 12 hole course at Shiskine. On one of the afternoon rounds myself and three others were on the green at the 3rd, Crow's Nest hole. It was here that high up on the rock face near the footpath to King's Cave we spotted a black "big cat" which startled us all. The striking features were it's size and tail length. We were all of a sober (fairly) disposition and of average eyesight. I would welcome any comment with regard to this sighting.

As a sober member of Arran society I have no doubt that your cat was real, I have now seen twice within a half mile area and have chatted to lots of Arran individuals who have seen the animal or animals, no mistake your only lunacy is playing golf

Rebecca Garrett says

That's so exciting! It's definitely possible you saw a big cat; they are very adaptable to different climates so there's no reason why they can't survive up here.

There's actually a really good article in this month's Fortean Times on ABCs (Alien Big Cats, as they are often referred to).

It would also be a good idea to report any sightings to the Big Cats in Britain group.

Gary Paton says

The lunacy that you suggest has at times been prevalent when a strong westerly and horizontal rain can make the idyllic links reminiscent of a commando training exercise. However our sorties from the mainland every September have "usually" coincided with favourable weather and this year the 25th anniversary of the Country Shop Open will take place on the 8th, 9th & 10th on Scotland in miniature.

With regard to the "big cat" I presume that it has been introduced from the mainland, is that the consensus of local opinion. Has there been any cases of livestock being attacked or indeed high handicap hackers for that matter???
